Cyclone Amphan hit West Bengal on May 20. There was no electricity for 4-5 days in several places during the cyclone. Ordinary people also protested in anger. CESC and State Power Corporation were in question.
At the same time, many diabetic patients are unable to take insulin during power outages. Many expressed concern about the patient's health as the insulin cartridges could not be refrigerated. Not only ordinary people but also drug dealers and traders protested against this. They complained that it was not possible to keep the insulin cartridge in the fridge due to lack of electricity. As a result, the health of many diabetic patients deteriorated to the point of death without insulin.
Insulin cartridges that have not been used are usually kept at a temperature of 4-6 সেল C. However, you can keep the insulin cartridge that has been opened and is being used at room temperature. Even if it is not kept in the fridge, that insulin can be used. Insulin cartridges last for 4 to 6 weeks without exposure to direct sunlight. So they do not get damaged if they are outside due to lack of electricity. This was stated by Prof. Dr. Satinath Mukherjee.
Doctors have given various tips on how to store insulin cartridges. "It's a rumor that insulin cartridges get damaged if not kept in the refrigerator," he said. They can be protected at home. For example, you can fill a bowl with water and store it there, or you can store new insulin cartridges in an earthenware container at home. It will not lose any of its qualities. However, do not keep the insulin cartridge with water up to the throat. If there is any leakage in it so that water cannot enter.
According to Dr. Satinath Mukherjee, 'Insulin cartridges cannot be kept in the deep freezer in any way. Because if it freezes, the quality will be lost. If it is kept below 4 degrees and above 40 degrees Celsius, it will be damaged. Insulin cartridges can be wrapped in a wet cloth. When you go to the market, buy insulin cartridges after buying everything and return home and save it properly. Once the insulin cartridge or pen is open, make it a habit to keep it at room temperature. Keep it parallel. Do not place it in front of anything too hot or too cold. Keep it in your handbag even when traveling by plane. Never keep the insulin penpel mouth open and do not use expired insulin cartridges or pens.
